A Young Poet's Dilemma is a serendipitous romance between a conflicted poet and an understanding woman, set against the backdrop of a family drama. What ensues after their chance encounter in a bustling but serene part of midtown Manhattan is an exploration of human decision making when social pressures, internal motivations and, of course, love are involved.
The atmosphere, pace, plot and characters are reminiscent of Éric Rohmer's Boyfriends and Girlfriends and The Aviator's Wife. The conversations flow in a seemingly endless direction making us feel as if we're on continuous holiday, working with the characters to solve the never-ending problems of modern life. We're invested in the characters not only because they are interesting, but because they remind us of ourselves and more importantly, of the difficult questions we work to answer on a daily basis about our life and our intimate relationships.
A Young Poet's Dilemma is ideal for independent film lovers who adore French New Wave cinema but are interested in a more modern feel. The New York setting allows anyone who dreams of working and falling in love in the city that never sleeps to live vicariously through the young, but intelligent male and female characters of this story.
A mid-20s male NYU math graduate student who dreams of becoming a poet. His mom, dad and two brothers all live in Virginia.
A mid-20s female medical student at Weill Cornell.
