WARUI, who lives in a beach house with his wife ELINAH, is called outside by a deep voice. By the ocean edge is a cat, who tells him he can go and see JAALI, his long-drowned son, for one night only, but he has to take his unfinished boat, The Ngendo. Warui rows the boat out and it starts to sink. Amazingly, Warui finds he can breathe underwater and rows the boat out under the waves.

After encountering some cryptic sea life who warn him to turn back and take nothing from the sea, he is overjoyed to find his son Jaali sitting on a rock on the sea bed. He hugs him and after they joyfully catch up for a few minutes he implores Jaali to join him rowing back to shore.

As they leave the sea, Warui calls Elinah out to join him, shouting "Come here, come quickly! I have found him!"

Elinah screams at what he has brought back.
