In the middle of the Battle of Waterloo, three soldiers (two brother officers and a corporal) retreat to the safety of La Haye Sainte, where they get locked in the main farmhouse. Captain Harry, the eldest, is a stubborn yet patriotic officer who wants nothing more but glory and victory in the battlefield and is willing to throw his life away for that, while his brother, Lieutenant Peter, wants to survive by
any means necessary so he can carry on their family’s lineage. And the injured Corporal named Phillip wants to go back to his brother.
Whilst in the midst of trying to mend Phillip, they realized that the French has taken over and now they have to stay in to not get spotted and killed by the French. Then a few hours later, Harry and Phillip have found a way out but Peter was still having concerns about it however, that falls on deaf ears. Push comes to Shove and Peter’s anxiety gets to him as he stabs Phillip in the same spot he was injured, which then leads to Harry and Peter having a fight wherein the end, Harry shoots him with a pistol.
As they say their final goodbyes, Peter tells Harry to stay alive for him to which Harry promises. As Peter dies, Harry notices that the English have won the battle and he can head out to meet his comrades with a reinjured Phillip in hand, who tells him that he has a new brother in him, and they both walk out of La Haye Sainte as the victors of the battle.
The protagonist. Captain of 2nd Battalion, 44th (East Essex) Regiment of Foot. The eldest of the two brothers. Harry is seen as very patriotic but also very stubborn as he hopes to become victorious over the French.
The antagonist, Lieutenant of 2nd Battalion, 44th (East Essex) Regiment of Foot. The youngest of two brothers. Peter starts off as a shy version of Harry but he also smart and tactical, but his persona quickly turns into one of cowardice when push comes to shove as he wants to survive.
A side character, Corporal of 2nd Battalion, 44th (East Essex) Regiment of Foot. He is always dismissed by the two brothers as he is a low ranked soldier. He wants to know where he really came from and if he had brothers. Being a low ranked soldier, he can come off as crass and disrespectful, but over time becomes a good aid to the protagonist.
